PRACTICUM
Henderson South/Miss Karaka/Miss Smith
Hello! After coming back from the South Island, it was time to come back to real world! This was a little bit weird. The Thursday after we got back from the South Island, we went and met our principal. My principal is Mr. Trevor Diamond! I must say, I have the best principal over here. I know that probably a little bit biased, but it's true. Then A little bit later, Professor Jacobs said, "You guys are so lucky. Trevor is an incredible principal, and the best one over here." So now that's not even biased! I feel so blessed to have a good principal!
Anyway, I got up and got ready, and looked very professional, and went over to the school. We went into the principal's office, and sat down. First he told us the motto of the school, "Caring, Sharing, Learning." Then he handed us a file folder with information about the school, and anything he thought would be helpful for us while we are here. This was incredible! No other school got this. Then he just chatted with us and got to know us a little better.
After we had been in for a little bit, it was time for morning tea. Morning tea is where all of the teachers meet together, and just chat. They provide a little snack, and Milo (similar to hot chocolate), coffee, or tea. All the teacher's go in and get their snack, then they sit down in a big open square and they talk about their lives or things going on in the school. If the principal or anyone has an announcement, they ring a little bell and everyone turns their attention to them. This is where I met my teacher first!
My teacher's name is Miss Karaka! She is half Maori, and half British. She has blonde hair and kind of tan skin (Not quite as tan as me), and she's taller than I am. I'd guess about 5 foot 10. She has so much energy! It's crazy! My first impression was that she just seems like she is such a fun teacher! After morning tea, I got to go down and meet my class! This was so much fun! I loved it! This is my classroom! Meeting the Principal was a very good day!
