MONDAY IN CHRISTCHURCH
Akaora/Christchurch Museum/Spaghetti
Monday was another fun day! Today we went down to a little town called Akaora. It was so cute! Just the Quaintest little town ever! The french settled it, and there was such a french influence! It was really cute! Here we just walked around and looked in all of the little shops. There was some gorgeous jade stores there! Also there were tons of cute home decor stores! It made me want to decorate a house. One day I will be able to do that! ha ha!
It was kind of a rainy day, so then we went into the museum. It was really neat. On the bottom floor it was a lot of history, and natural history of New Zealand. This was pretty cool. The thing that I like the most is looking at the old Maori carvings on the paddles and the boats they are so detailed. Then on the second floor they had an art museum of all war paintings. It was the textured paintings, and they were absolutely gorgeous! It was really neat to see the military point of view from another country. Anyway on that same floor there was the shell house! This was hilarious/really cute! It was a house that an old couple built in their life. The gentleman was very interested in the shells, and would always have them laying on the floor. After so long, is wife decided to move them off the floor and hang them on the walls. Pretty soon their entire house was covered in shells! They had over 1100 shells! It was crazy!
The next thing I really liked was all about the earthquake. They had an entire thing dedicated to the earthquake. They had all of the aftershocks that were happening currently since, and there were even aftershocks that had happened that day! It was also very interesting. They are putting in a time capsule that will be opened in 2060 about everyone experiences in the earthquake and how they were affected. We were able to see the time capsule. This was very interesting.
After this, it was time for dinner. We decided we wanted to cook spaghetti for everyone. Rebecca, Katie, and I were put in charge of going with Professor Jacobs to get the food. Well we did a very good job! We got spaghetti, sauce and meat, and then salad and veggies to go in it!
As we got back and started dividing up the stuff, we realized it was very hard! ha ha! Not everybody had big pots, or big sauce pans to heat the sauce up, so we had to be very selected of who we gave jobs to. NO worries it all worked out. We had heaps of food! You would have thought we were feeding the whole city! We were stuffed after!
After dinner, James wanted to do family night. James (Our driver), has been very involved in finding the history of the Church in New Zealand. So for our Family Home Evening Night, he went through and talked about where it began who were influencial and why it happened where it did. This was very interesting. We had girls who had ancestors who served missions, and he knew who they were and could tell stories to them of this. It was very fun!

After Family night, we played a game similar to Farkle. Johnny and James taught it to us. It was so fun! I enjoyed it very much! We played it for about two hours. I must say the sixteen of us are VERY competitive! ha ha! We had a lot of fun! Following this, we did another great movie night! Tonight we watched Chocolat. It was pretty cute! It has Johnny Depp in it! I enjoy watching his movies! We all enjoyed just hanging out together and having fun! After it was off to bed!
