“Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things you didn’t do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines, sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover.”

Sydney Australia
Darling Harbor/Martin Place/Museum of Contemporary Art/Discovery Museum at the Rock
Well today was Sunday. This was a little bit of a problem, because the girls and I didn’t want it to be a very go go go day, but we still wanted to see the city. We couldn’t go to church because over here it is conference, so there wasn’t even church.  For this reason, we planned to do several of the free things this day. We began by having a sleep in day and not starting going till about nine o’ clock. After we were ready to go, we walked down to Darling Harbor! Now this is exactly what the name says it is, it is Darling! It was are little joke to be like isn’t it so cute, and then someone else would respond, “It’s just darling!” We thought  we were so funny! But anyway this is so cute! There are tons of boats, and there is a bridge, and there is even a pirate ship! We spent quite a bit of time just wandering around that Harbor and exploring there!

After we had finished exploring Darling Harbor, we walked over to go to the Chinese Gardens of Friendship, because in the book it told us it was free. We got there and took a pictures, then we walked into to go view the gardens. This is when we found out the book was wrong. They had changed it and you had to pay to go in. So since it was Sunday, we decided we didn’t want to do that, and we would just admire them from a far. They were pretty, but we were glad that we didn’t go into them.

After this we walked up in the city, and we saw St. Jame’s Cathedral. St. Jame’s Cathedral is a Cathedral that use to be a court house! We wanted to go in and tour, but there was a church service going on. We didn’t know if it was okay to go in, but then we decided to, because we really wanted to see the inside. I am so glad we went in. They had their choir up singing, and in this building were some of the most amazing acoustics I have ever heard! It was really neat! It was a little bit awkward, but the building itself was gorgeous and the choir sounded really good. We enjoyed listening to them sing. We didn’t stay long though because we all felt  a little bit out of place, so after we continued on our journey.
The next place we were off to was to Martin Place. This is a street with some more incredible architecture! I have never been one to appreciate this, but I do believe that now after being in Sydney, I am going to appreciate buildings and the way they were built so much more! They were gorgeous! They have the old British feeling and this is just amazing! We spent a lot of time taking pictures there!

Once we had finished taking our pictures, we went to the Museum of Contemporary Art. Going to all of the Museums that we did in New Zealand I always said how I just wish I was an artist and appreciated all forms of art. I loved this art, and thought it was really neat, but there will be some things I never understand about art, like how you can just put boards in a straight line unpainted and call it art. I know I am just not cultured enough to appreciate it, but that was weird to me. Despite that, it was really fun, and there were some incredible pictures. They featured a New Zealand artist, so there were a lot of pictures from New Zealand that I recognized, I loved this!
The next place we went was to the Discovery Museum. This was really fascinating! I loved this! I have been so use to hearing about the Maori people about where they came from and what they believed that it was really interesting to hear about the Aborigine people that started out on the rocks. One thing that is truly amazing to me is how all the Native people to the land have similar beliefs (Maori, Aborigine, and Native Americans). They all talk about Mother Earth, the Sea, Fire, and Land, and Sun. It’s interesting to me how they are all so similar. I really enjoyed this museum. We spent quite a bit of time there.

After that we had finished all of our plans. It’s a good thing we did too, because it had started raining. So we took of running back to our hotel and were able to get in and have an early dry night! It was another successful day in Sydney! I loved it!
